Personally, I would not use regular Gramps on a database of 1.2M people. But there is a third choice: use mysql (or whatever) with Gramps Connect. Gramps Connect is a project that I've been working on for the last few years to replicate the Gramps DB interface (so all reports and functions will still work), but allow different backends, on the web. The main goal of the project is to allow collaboration, especially with large databases. As a nice side-effect, it also give a nice mobile interface to Gramps as well. Gramps Connect is about 85% done, and I hope to finish it completely in the next year. I already have my family database on line, and have been beta-test using it for the last few months. It can import from Gramps XML, or GEDCOM, on the web, and run any Gramps report. Most of the data can be edited/added/deleted. You can see a demo at: http://gramps-connect.org/ (id: admin, password: gramps) More details: http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=GEPS_013:_GRAMPS_Webapp Let me know if you would like to work on this, and I'll get you started. -Doug > -- > > > Regards... > > Martin Ferrier, FIET. > > > > Visit my Genealogy Repository. > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Everyone hates slow websites.
