Take a backup copy first, but yes. The default position of the database
directory is .gramps/grampsdb.
If you change the database directory in the preferences, you only don't
need the grampsdb subfolder anymore, .gramps  and specifically the settings
in .gramps/gramps34 or 33 can remain locally.
