Rob, I got lots of errors when I tried to run your code with: python setup.py sdist How far have you got with this geps? The *.in files will get variables substituted during the make. After a quick look this seems to be mainly the Gramps version number. Looking at your code, I'm not quite sure of your approach. There seem to be two main areas that we need to add customised code: 1. Translation utilites 2. Text substitution in *.in files Can we use standard distutils functionality for the python code? You seem to have tried two approaches to list python packages and modules: manually compiling a list (which would need maintaining) and using a script to build the list (more convenient). It would be good if we could use the existing Gramps directory structure. In that way we could run both the new distutils and the old makefiles at the same time.
