I've been adding families to a database. The following are remarks, or questions, or suggestions, about some aspects of Gramps' behaviour that have been bugging me. 1. In the People view, if I choose 'Name does not contain' in the find menu, and search for people not called 'Smith', the menu immediately reverts to the default, i.e. 'Name contains'. Why? Why not leave the menu at the last user setting? 2. I want to say, too, that the Gnome search thingy, the one where you just start typing, doesn't work for me. At least, not in the People view. It's just too slow (it can't keep up with my typing), and it's too dumb (it only understands initial sequences). The search bar is okay, but it needs a key binding that takes me to the text box. I don't care so much to be taken to the 'Find' button. I could get there from the text box, or I could just hit enter. Alt-F doubling up on 'Family tree' and 'Find' isn't too good either. Amarok provides an example of a search bar that works pretty well. 3. On a somewhat different topic, say I have some Smiths in my database, and want to add them one by one to the Smith family. What I need, really, is for the 'Select Child' window to remember that I'm dealing with Smiths, and open in the same place, i.e. amongst the Smiths, the next time I call it. It doesn't. Instead it reverts to the top of the list, with only family names showing. -- Martin |
