Unless I have misunderstood Jason (and Benny), I don't think that everything that Benny mentioned is relevant. Jason is (I think) talking about webpages *produced* with GRAMPS, not GRAMPS itself. For example, I could put at the bottom of a text-based report (or webpage) that I generated any kind of limited license I wanted. On the other hand, if the webpage or report contains copyrighted graphics (or other media), then this is where we run into the issues that Benny raised. But, depending on the style sheet (and actual media used) this might not be an issue. For example, the user could replace our graphics with others (free or proprietary) and we wouldn't know. It sounds like if we want to have a creative-commons permissive license, then we need to only use graphics on those pages that match that use. -Doug On Sun, March 9, 2008 9:13 am, Benny Malengier wrote: > Licensing is very important, and I'm afraid we have a problem here with > the > license you want to use. > > You will see our icons are a mix of GPL (like GNOME) and creative commons > with attribution (like TANGO icons) and we cannot mix icons from those > :-(, > so licenses can be a bother > > Anyway, you can add stuff to GRAMPS, but images wich are creative commons > no > commercial is a NO-GO !! > It is perfectly possible to redistribute GRAMPS and sell it, some people > do > it even with selling the Linux Genealogy CD _today_. > Feel free to add images that are really free (so public domain, share > alike, > and attribution type licenses) they are ok with the distribution license > of > GPL (which allows reselling).
