OK. So I have downloaded the Backports version 3.0.1. Do I need to uninstall my current version? Also, will the new version automatically find my data base? |

Thanks Stephane. I have successfully upgraded from 2.2 to 3.0.1-1 using the Ubuntu Backports version. |

If you installed version 2.x from source/subversion using "make install", then yes, you'll need to uninstall first. If you don't understand what the line above means, or you know you installed from Synaptic or a .deb file, then no need to uninstall. Next question: If you are upgrading from 3.0.0 to 3.0.x, then yes, it will automatically find your family tree. If you are upgrading from 2.x to 3.0.x, then you'll want to look at the wiki which outlines one possible way to upgrade: http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Upgrading_from_GRAMPS_2.2.x_to_3.0.x (If you know what you are doing, there are variations on how to bootstrap version 3.0.x with your 2.x trees, but the wiki description should work fine for you.) BTW, version 3.0.3 is now out. You can get the .deb from here: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=25770&package_id=109309 :) Stéphane |
