Currently, to add a witness who is in the database, I need to know their ID before going to that window. To add a witness who is not, but should be, in the database, I need to add them to the database, take note of their ID number and then go to the witness tab and enter them. Can we please have the same functionality with witnesses as we do when adding children/parents/spouses? If we check the <Person is in database> spot, we should have a window pop up (or the <person> field on the witness tab should shift to a drop down field and a <new> button should be ungreyed beside it). We can then choose from a list of everyone (or every reasonable possibility) or add a new person to the database. Doug M-C |

Actually, this has already been developed and will be in 0.9.3. Don Doug wrote: >Currently, to add a witness who is in the database, I need to know their ID before going to that window. Hi, I have been trying to get Gramps installed on my Debian box for some time, but always get the same errors not matter what I install. Here are the errors. The seem to be because of the Python bindings for gnome, but I am unable to install them. Output when running ./configure: checking for textdomain in -lc... yes checking for pkg-config... YES Package gnome-vfs-module-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gnome-vfs-module-2.0.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'gnome-vfs-module-2.0' found Package gnome-vfs-module-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gnome-vfs-module-2.0.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'gnome-vfs-module-2.0' found checking Python bindings for gtk... configure: error: **** The python bindings for gtk 2.0 (pygtk2) could not be found. Here is what I get when trying install the Python bindings: # apt-get install python-gnome Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that the package is simply not installable and a bug report against that package should be filed. The following information may help to resolve the situation: Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies: python-gnome: Depends: libgdk-pixbuf-gnome2 (>= 0.16.0-1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libgtkhtml20 (>= 1.0.2) but it is not going to be installed E: Sorry, broken packages I tried installing the dependencies, but they would not install, either. Any ideas? Thanks, Kevin Kevin W. Daniel ke...@ke... |

Kevin, We spoke before, but since your situation might have changed since then: what version of GNOME desktop do you have installed? If it's GNOME2 then you need python-gnome2 package (python-gnome is for GNOME1 desktop). If you have GNOME1 desktop, then gramps2 will not be able to install and/or run. Instead, you need to get a pre-0.9.x release. > **** The python bindings for gtk 2.0 (pygtk2) could not be found. This line tells me that you're trying to install 0.9.x release. > # apt-get install python-gnome This means you're getting old (GNOME1) python-gnome. but gramps 0.9.x is not compatibe with that. > I tried installing the dependencies, but they would not install, either. Let's sort this out first and then see if there's more dependencies to satisfy. By the way, if you run unstable, why don't just # apt-get install gramps Please feel free to ask more questions, Alex -- Alexander Roitman http://ebner.neuroscience.umn.edu/people/alex.html Dept. of Neuroscience, Lions Research Building 2001 6th Street SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455 Tel (612) 625-7566 FAX (612) 626-9201 |
