Can anyone tell me which Linux works the best for Gramps when installing. I tried on RedHat 9 without success. I am open to any Linux flavor. I want to build a new machine and use Gramps but just need advice on the best Linux OS to use. Any help appreciated. Tim __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New and Improved Yahoo! Tim, GRAMPS should work fine under Red Hat 9. Most of the development occurs under Debian, Red Hat 9, and Fedora Core. If you had problems with RH9, let me know what they are. I'm running Fedora with Gramps, no problem. Had previously run Gramps on RH 9 and 8. You know Don, with regards to this and your final proposal message, I think you'd be more likely to get a flame war asking which Linux distribution is best, vs. asking about how to handle same-sex relationships. ;) Regards, Jason Colflesh On Fri, 2004-07-30 at 17:33, Mike White wrote: > Felix Roennebeck wrote: > > Hi Tim, > > > > I'm running gramps on Debian without any problems. > > > > /Felix > > > > Tim Keesling wrote: > > > >> Can anyone tell me which Linux works the best for > >> Gramps when installing. Got two Fedora 2 boxes it's running onto in the house. One is a straight FC 2 Gnome box,the other ( mine ) is running the same core but with a jhbuild CVS bleeding edge Gnome. Which i highly prefer for many reasons. ( just mention working menu editing and you slashdot jhbuild's site everytime ;) There's a ton of distros out there you need to try before you can make a good decision as what suits you best.It will take time for you to find out .. And it's ok like that . Linux is a world where the mind is free to wander around and learn.Tools for one distro can be used on others , applications differ and there's so many out there that suit every need conceivable. :) Gramps is sweet on our boxes. Never had any real issues. Have fun, experiment and enjoy. Ric ok ok . i shut up and get back to the translation ... the pressure round here .. ; ) On Sat, 31 Jul 2004 01:09:51 -0400 Jason <ro...@ho...> wrote: > I'm running Fedora with Gramps, no problem. I guess that with enough effort you can really make GRAMPS run on ANY distro. All of the dependencies are listed, and the source code is available. I have used gramps on KDE centric Mandrake, SuSE, Lycoris and Gnome centric Redhat, Fedora 1. The Gnome centric distros usually already have all of the deps installed, so it is easier to get GRAMPS running, but once you have all of the deps for your distro just build from source. You mentioned that you use SuSE 8.2 for a server, I used 8.2 as my desktop OS for the last year + using GRAMPS without any hitch. Currently I use SuSE 9.1 and GRAMPS runs with no problems. There is a rpm for the latest GRAMPS for SuSE 9.1 at http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/9.1-i386/RPMS.suser-rbos/ I still have a 8.2 RPM for an older version of gramps if you want it. Let me know.
