I think I have the start of place objects implemented. The underlying structure is in place. Reading an older database and saving it will update the format to the place objects. There is very little visible change at this point. I don't have the anyplace to display the place objects or allow you to edit them yet. Where you can normally select and enter places in the interface (the Edit Person dialog and the Marriage/Relationship dialog), you will see that entries in the pulldown menus now have a marker at the end in the form of [Pxx]. This is the gramps ID for the place object. If you select the entry from the menu, the ID does not show up in the text box. If you enter a name that does not match one of the places in the list, a new place object will be created when you save the current edits (press the OK button). They are not saved immediately, because then a Cancel would not really cancel things. The next time you open dialog boxes, you will notice that the new place is in the list, along with its ID. A few things need to be cleaned up. For example, if an Edit Person dialog has no birth place or death place, and you enter the same string in both, gramps will create two seperate place objects. This is probably not the right thing to do. Please give the current CVS a workout, and report any problems that you find. I would like to get the underlying structure debugged before I build anything more on top of it. After this is working, I'll move on to the place object list and place object editing. -- Don Allingham dal...@us... GPG/PGP Public Key at http://members.home.net/donaldallingham/dallingham.key |

Place names that have umlauts (öüä...) in it (in ISO-8859-1 format) in the XML file show up with two strange chars in the program as if they have been transformed to unicode and not converted back to ISO-8859-1 for display. Sorry, forgot to do the unicode to iso-8859-1 conversion. CVS should be updated now. --=20 Don Allingham dal...@us... GPG/PGP Public Key at http://members.home.net/donaldallingham/dallingham.key |
