I have been experiencing loss of information while merging people (on STABLE).
This has been a fuzzy feeling of "I thought I had put something here"
for some time and I have started paying more attention to make sure.
I have seen it happen at least twice after that, so I had a look at
What follows is my conclusion from just a superficial look at the
code. There may be more instances of information loss and some
problems I see may not be there and just the result of my lack of
experience with the code or my getting old. Also, some code may look
right and, yet, fail to work in some or all cases.
After all the disclaimers, here's what I found:
Tab: General. Everything seems OK, including the handling of
alternate names and dates. The case where we merge people with
different nicknames is not handled with full generality, though it
will work in most cases.
Tab: Names. OK.
Tab: Attributes. OK.
Tab: Events. mostly OK, but witnesses and the gallery are not merged.
This is a potential source of information loss.
Tab: Adresses. Not handled. They do not seem to be merged, so this
seems another source of informaton loss.
Tab: Notes. Mostly correct. Repeated merging with the same data may
result in duplication of information here but no loss of information.
Tab: Sources. Not handled. Another source of information loss.
Tab: Gallery. Seems OK, but have not looked too much into it.
Tab: Internet. Seems OK.
Tab: LDS. Not handled, possible source of information loss.
Tab: General. Seems OK
Tab: Events. Unclear. It seems that in some cases events are copied.
Experience, however, suggests that marriage details are lost very
often while merging people. So there must be cases where the info is
not corectly merged.
Tab: Attributes. Not handled. Seems another source of information loss.
Tab: Notes. Not handled.
Tab: Sources. Not handled.
Tab: Gallery. Not handled.
Tab: LDS. Not handled.
This matches my experience: it works for the most part, but fails at
times, especially with family information.
Can anyone confirm or refute this?
