If I am not mistaken, you moved the database. See: http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Recover_corrupted_grdb The grdb format is not portable, use the .gramps format for that. If that was not the cause, start from a fresh database, create a new one, and import the last backup file (.gramps xml format!) . Note that present version is 3.0.0, you find it in Debian sid, and soon in Lenny.
