I have been using Gramps for some time now and I am always impressed by how good it is in its comprehensive functions, ease of use, robustness - a big thank you to the developers is well deserved.
For me, there are 2 downsides to Gramps, and they are 2 sides of the same coin really: its not possible to display on the screen a full interactive tree (as can be seen of a tree on Ancestry) and it cannot be shared with other family members (except by sending a file from time to time).
Many others must have the same issues, and I wonder how people deal with this.

For a full interactive tree, there is the  plugin http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Graph_View
All descendants in a view.

The upcoming version 4.0 will have fanchart that can show a lot of people on little screen: http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Gramps_4.0_Wiki_Manual_-_Categories#Fan_Chart_View

To share data, Doug is working on gramps connect: http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Gramps-Connect

At the moment nothing to try with version 3.4. In upcoming version, syncing will not work yet. Installation is not that easy however, somebody should set it up, and then "sell" an instance. Note, it will then still be open source, but not free anymore, as the person who provides the service, must pay the data bills.

I have no idea how to set up a website (I am well past retirement age, so don't ask me to learn something new unless it is in words of 1 syllable and can be achieved in 3 or 4 steps!).

Possibilities I have considered are putting my family tree on Family Search, WikiTree, Ancestry, or some similar place.  I want to continue using Gramps and only keep a copy on the website, but is there any way for the two versions to be kept in sync automatically?  I am sure if I do it manually they will get out of sync very quickly (already I have forgotten what I had for breakfast this morning!)

Any help, advice, or experiences will be gratefully appreciated

Many thanks
John

I am using Gramps 3.4.3-1 on Windows 7, 32 bit
My tree has 7,000 people; 13,000 events; 1,622 places; 12,000 citations
