I just bought an Lowrance iFinder Explorer. I use GPSBabel to convert tracks
to GPX. I noticed that other software I have is able to read the track
The fact that there is a conversion for Lowrance suggests that the "format"
was cracked (or did lowrance provide specs). Is there a reason for altitude
info not being carried over to the GPX?

Looking at the code and a hex dump of the file, I really don't see
altitude stored in tracks. The individual trackpoints seem to repeat
in nine byte intervals: 4 for lat, 4 for lon, and 1 indicating whether
it's a new track or not.
A peek into the ifinder_gps yahoogroup confirms the unit does not
We can't "carry over" what's not there.
