I've seriously bozoed the 'gpsutil' format. It's been wrong forever.
Unfortunately, I've come to depend on this broken format and worse, the
GPSBabel test suite depends on this broken behaviour.
GPSUtil actually uses DDDD.DDD.
GPSBabel reads GPSUtil files as DDMM.MMM but writes them as DDDD.DDD. I
use this file format (in DDMM.MMM) to hand-create files. Since I always
read and never write this format, I never caught this.
Of course, since GPSutil always writes a leading pound sign and this
chokes GPSBabel anyway, I'm inclined to assume that there are zero users
of "real" GPSutil files. If I "fix" the output to match the input, I
have to change our test suite somewhat. Then I have to change the doc
and command line usage to quit claiming this is GPSUtil format when in
reality, it's merely similar.
Does anybody out here even care about GPSUTIL? My inclination is to
say that nobody does since it's been broken since before GPSBabel was
I hate when that happens...
