I'm looking for an overview of the gpsbabel system, and how to go
about integrating software for the Silva Multi-Navigator. I did get
a 23 page spec sheet from Silva-support regarding their serial
communication many weeks ago.
The device outputs information via NMEA, and understands some
commands in this mode - one of which puts it into NPP mode, giving
access to the waypoint and route functionality.
I'm quite eager to get going, but my C is a tad rusty, and I
have never done any coding for the serial port. Anyone
happy to support me in this adventure? :}
Please don't top post, and don't use HTML e-Mail :} Make your quotes concise.

We have several good examples in the source tree. Our format_skeleton.c
describes pretty much the minimum hook-up to our internals.
Look for files containing "gbser" to see our internal abstraction of
serial devices so
it'll work on UNIX/Mac/Windows. The magproto source file is an
example that talks
to a serial device (well, it gets tangled up in the details of the SD
card models) that
speaks a very NMEA-ish communication protocol. There are other examples to
worth with, too.
Let us know if there's anything we can answer.
