No

Please look into test.plt and test-{1,2}.png in the attached tar.gz file.

If I don't specify fontscale then fonts are too small and virtually no character is displayed (test-1.png).
If I specify large fontscale (40 in this example) then I get normal result as in test-2.png.

Is this normal behavior? Or am I using pngcairo in a wrong way?
Or have I missed something while building gnuplot?
I built cairo-1.12.8/pango-1.32.3/gnuplot-4.6.1 by myself on Mac OS X 10.8.2.

    It is not normal behaviour.

    Some things to check:
    - The default font is "Sans". Is your system configured to provide it? Have you tried giving a different font, e.g. set term pngcairo font "Arial"
    - Does your system correctly report the resolution of your terminal? May it thinks the resolution is only 1/40 of the true value
    - Do the other cairo terminals (wxt, pdfcairo) have the same problem?

I used fontscale 40 because I prefer larger fonts, but it seems that
somewhat smaller value (around 20?) is the value which gives the
similar results with other (non-cairo) devices.

    >Have you tried giving a different font,

Yes, I tried Arial, Times, etc. and they behave similarly.

    >Does your system correctly report the resolution of your terminal?

Sorry, I don't know how to let my system report the resolution.
    (I'm not using "Retina" display)

    >Do the other cairo terminals (wxt, pdfcairo) have the same problem?

I don't have wxt, but pdfcairo behaves similarly.

Are there anyone on Mac who has (or doesn't have) this "problem"?

I've found that wxt terminal has the same problem, and the problem
exists also on Mac OS X 10.6 (probably on all versions of OS X).
