Is this possible? I have a dataset in the format of

x1 y11 y12 y13 y14 y15
x2 y21 y22 y23 y24 y25
etc.

Is it possible to have gnuplot know automatically how many y columns there are, use the first column as the x-inputs, and cycle through colors? I can get this to work if I remove the first column and assume the list is gridded by using

plot '-' matrix u ($1*pi/500):3:2 w l lc var lw 2 notitle

However that is not generally the case, nor is it terribly useful.

I just realized I asked this question earlier, but I didn't understand the answer. Please see "Matrix Data Transpose" in feature requests.
