Thanks to both for the ideas. I thought of changing the date format but the data file I use (a csv file) = is generated by a monitoring tool and thus I have no control on it. Also, since it is a csv file I have defined ',' as the column separator.=20 This prevent me for cheating with the "using" values. It looks like I will have to pre-process my file. I will probably use awk=20 to remove one column. Makes it complicated... ;-) Thanks again. regards, Sebastien swlab <sw...@co...> 29/12/2004 19:34 =20 To: gnu...@li... cc: Sebastien Lemeunier/PH/Novartis@PH Subject: Re: [Gnuplot-info] format string exclusion Category:=20 On Wednesday 29 December 2004 12:23, Hans-Bernhard Br=F6ker wrote: > seb...@ph... wrote: > > I am fighting in trying to read the standard output of the Unix date > > command with a timefmt string (e.g. Wed Dec 29 11:26:56 EST 2004). my 2c: 1. As Hans-Bernhard suggested, choose another timestamp for your 'date'=20 output, for example=20 date +"%d/%m/%Y %H:%M:%S" "info date" to get more info about the formats you can choose. Might be a=20 problem if your file is already written. 2. Preprocess your file with some scripting language like Perl. There are=20 some=20 extensions developed to process dates, I'm thinking "Date::Manip" in=20 particular, and I'm pretty sure it can recognize your format and output a=20 more suitable one --=20 Soil and Water Laboratory Dept. of Biological and Environmental Engineering Cornell University Riley Robb Hall ITHACA, NY 14853 |
