Hi, The output of the "test" command features a filled polygon. This suggests that plotting polygons (filled or unfilled) is supported by gnuplot. However, the gnuplot documentation doesn't tell how to do it. Is there an easy way to plot filled polygons? Thanks, Ralf |

Unfilled polygons can always be composed of arrows, or by plotting a closed sequence of vertices from a datafile "with lines". |

Hi Thanks to everyone involved in the production of gnuplot, especially, the 4.0.0 Mac OS X package. Could someone please update the gnuplot download page so that it indicates there is a .dmg file available from the sourceforge.net download page? Currently, there is a link to a 404 at homepage.mac.com Cheers, Joe |

Dear group, I am trying to plot the difference between to dates. I got strange errors and then tried the script below. In both gnuplot 3.7 and 4.0 it seems that the third column is not read correctly. Plotting the second column with dates results in an empty range. When the time (H:M:S) is made different is the two data entries gnuplot does not give an empty range error, but does not plot the datapoints at the correct date. Does anyone know how to work with more than one date? The script file follow below. Thanks! Hi Team, I write you let you know that Gnuplot seems to have a problem of interpreting mathematical expressions. Here is the version used: Version 4.0 patchlevel 0, last modified Thu Apr 15 14:44:22 CEST 2004 (System: Darwin 8.6.0) Hereafter, both two equations (as per the plot command line) are identical but written in the different way. Results depends on the location of parameter "a" in the plot command line. It turns out to be that the 1st plot is right, but the second plot (just the same equation but written differently) is wrong. Is it a known problem? Regards, Raf ### ### 1st Plot ### ### set terminal postscript landscape enhanced "Times-Roman" 22; set output "GoodPlot.ps" set key top left; set grid set xrange [0.22:2.5] dH=8 ; dT=6 plot f(x) = 0.5*dT*x*60*sqrt(x**2+(pi*a*(dH-dT)/60)**2)/a, \ a = 30, f(x) lw 4 title "N_O = &{0}30",\ a = 50, f(x) lw 4 title "N_O = &{0}50",\ a = 100, f(x) lw 4 title "N_O = 100",\ a = 200, f(x) lw 4 title "N_O = 200",\ a = 300, f(x) lw 4 title "N_O = 300" ### ### 2nd Plot ### ### set terminal postscript landscape enhanced "Times-Roman" 22; set output "WrongPlot.ps" set key top left; set grid set xrange [0.22:2.5] dH=8 ; dT=6 plot f(x) = 0.5*dT*x*(60/a)*sqrt(x**2+(pi*(a/60)*(dH-dT))**2), \ a = 30, f(x) lw 4 title "N_O = &{0}30 rpm",\ a = 50, f(x) lw 4 title "N_O = &{0}50 rpm",\ a = 100, f(x) lw 4 title "N_O = 100 rpm",\ a = 200, f(x) lw 4 title "N_O = 200 rpm",\ a = 300, f(x) lw 4 title "N_O = 300 rpm" |

Im having 2 problems. First, when gnuplot starts (Windows), it comes up in Terminal font, and I have to change the font to Courier New so that I can read the screen. Is there some way to save this setting as the default? Second, im having trouble in the plot command with trying to figure out where the file is expected to be. I have tried my documents, the directory where the bin file is located, C:, others with no luck. Is there a way to determine where it expects to see the data files, or is there a way to provide a full pathname to the data file? Thanks, Ron |

Changing the font is almost certainly not necessary. Changing its size, is. > Is there some way to save this setting as the default? Yes. "Update [...]wgnuplot.ini" in the same menu you found "Choose font...". > Second, im having trouble in the plot command with trying to figure out > where the file is expected to be. Is there a way to > determine where it expects to see the data files, Yes. gnuplot has a current working directory, and all relative pathnames are relative to that. You can change it using 'cd', and check it using 'pwd'. If you load a script via the 'File' menu, gnuplot will 'cd' to its directory automatically. > or is there a way to provide a full pathname to the data file? Yes, and yes. I'm wondering how the latter can fail to be obvious: of course you can pass the full pathname as an argument. The only tricky business is that paths had better be typed using forward slashes: plot 'c:/foo/whatever/my.dat' because you have to use single quotes, or double up all backslashes: plot 'c:\foo\whatever\my.dat' plot "c:\\foo\\whatever\\my.dat" |

Hello, I am using GNUPLOT 4.0 on a Linux 2.6.8.1-24mdk system. I have a problem with the "enhanced" option and the "set term jpeg": I want to create graphs with the jpeg format (or any other image formats) and to include in these graphs Greek letters, subscripts, and so on. With "set term postscript" the "enhanced" option works OK, but with "set term jpeg" I get: "gdImageStringFT: Could not find/open font" and the Greek fonts are not written in the graphs. Apparently it is a problem of path access to the fonts with the GD library linked to GNUPLOT. But how I can specify the right path? If you could help me. Thank you very much in advance. Best regards Matthieu Brassart |

If they are milion points it is going to take some time for the plot to show up in xterm pop up window, but certainely gnuplot is more powerfull than Excel in plotting large sets. I hope that helps. Thanks! That's great. I also was wondering if you could help me with 2 more questions: 1. if I want to plot another set of numbers (different file) with different colors, on top of my previous plotted points from the first file, how can I do this? 2. How can I export the graph once it is finished plotting the blue points on top of the red points? Where can I export it to? How? Thank you so much again, I really appreciate your quick response. This is straightforward, and following the example given by Ramzi > gnuplot>plot "file.txt" u 3:1 you can simply add more files by separating them with a comma, e.g. gnuplot>plot "file1.txt" u 3:1, "file2.txt" u 4:1 etc. A different colour / linestyle will be chosen automatically, if you want more control of this, see the link below. > 2. How can I export the graph once it is finished plotting the blue > points on top of the red points? Where can I export it to? How? You have to set the "terminal" to an output type first. For example, if you want an eps file named "MyGraph.eps" in color, with the example above, do something like gnuplot>set terminal postscript enhanced eps color gnuplot>set output "MyGraph.eps" gnuplot>plot "file1.txt" u 3:1, "file2.txt" u 4:1 Of course, there are many more options on how to do a plot, which output format to chose etc. I would suggest you read the following introduction to gnuplot: http://t16web.lanl.gov/Kawano/gnuplot/index-e.html Regards Till |
