I used the style "with filledcurves" for plotting a figure with differently coloured areas. I used coloured text labels for describing the significance of the areas. it would, however, be really nice to change the background colour of a text level to white, for example, to make the label more readable. Even nicer for this use case would be a proper text box which could have a order with a certain line style. If necessary, i can upload example figures demonstrating this idea. Thanks a lot!

    You can achieve this nowadays by:

    s='HELLO'
    set object 1 rectangle center 2,2 size char strlen(s)+2,char 2 fc rgb "#AAAAAA"
    set label 1 s at 2,2 center
