Hello, yes, I now remember that Peter Newman told me about his Android app: http://pnewman.com/keyring/ I also tried to recover some of the lost web pages using the web archive: http://www.jochen-hoenicke.de/keyring2-pre/griessnig/ http://www.jochen-hoenicke.de/keyring2-pre/lieder/ and some links are already in the repository, but for some reasons (probably, because the web-update process has changed) I never updated the site, sorry. 2013/9/11 David Cussans <Dav...@br...> > > Hi, > > There is an android version of GNUKeyring - > https://sites.google.com/site/androidkeyring/ . Hello Jochen, I have 3 or 4 backups of the databases. I wasn't trying to merge them. I was trying to go back and use and old one to get the password I needed and then go back to the more current file. I thought there was a GNU Keyring app for Android, and your comment tells me otherwise. I've used Keypass before so am looking into importing it there. Thank you! Lori ________________________________ From: Jochen Hoenicke <hoe...@gm...> To: Lori Hanley <lor...@ro...> Cc: "gnu...@li..." <gnu...@li...> Sent: Wednesday, September 11, 2013 7:07 AM Subject: Re: [gnukeyring-discuss] Palm OS Restore Problem Hello Lori, 2013/9/11 Lori Hanley <lor...@ro...> Hi, >I backed up my backup folders from the PalmOne directory. I'm not sure I understand everything, but I hope you still have enough database backups. There is no easy way to merge the databases; it would probably be easier to take one of them and add what is missing from the other by hand. I don't understand how you want to port it to Android. Is there a palm simulator or has someone written an Android app that understands the keyring pdb files? I think the way to go would be to use keypass, which is available for many platforms. It can import xml files. And the export tool on http://gnukeyring.sourceforge.net/conduits.html can convert the pdb files to clear-text XML, which should be compatible to keypass. Since the xml files are clear-text, you can also easily merge these files using a text-editor. Suggestions? I have a current file from yesterday and one from a couple of months back that would still have keys I deleted that I, of course, now need. You can use the export.jar-Tool to convert the pdb files to xml or csv, which can easily be edited/viewed with a simple editor (e.g. notepad++). You have to use it from the command line, and you may have to find out the path to the program java at least under windows. Or use some of the other tools to view the files [Unfortunately, all the links to the other tools are dead though]. Note that the xml and csv files are not encrypted so be careful where you keep them. Regards, Jochen |

Hi, I backed up my backup folders from the PalmOne directory. I removed GNU Keyring from my Palm and tried to re-add it and the database file from one of my backups. When I install these files to the Palm, the database is empty when I open the Keyring app. I'm confused and I wanted to import the pdb file to my Android, but now I'm starting to get a little anxious about not being able to port it over. Suggestions? I have a current file from yesterday and one from a couple of months back that would still have keys I deleted that I, of course, now need. Thanks!! Lori |

As things that just work are often forgotten, this is an humble thank you to KeyRing developpers. I have found a year 2000 Palm V forgotten, which was off for years. Still the battery charged again, it keeps 15 days of pace use! - then jpilot is in my distro great! - then seek for open source PRC, lots of valuable things. - then the Graal that makes this toy really usefull : Keyring. I would not find it without the jpilot plugin, good integration of open source tools. So 13 years later, it rocks! zezinho |

Or any other suggestions? Which version are you using? I thought I had fixed the crashes in all cases, but it is hard to test against all eventualities. You can try to use the export tool to convert the database to xml and back again. If you are unlucky the export tool will also crash, but it may be worth a try. Another possibility is to use third-party tools that can remove single records from the data base, e.g. Palm Debugger. You find the export tool on the conduit page http://gnukeyring.sourceforge.net/conduits.html Note that you need to have Java installed and start the tool from the command line (under Windows: Start->Run Program-> cmd ) Regards, Jochen |

For those who don't know, GNU Keyring appears to have been ported to Android. I just managed to copy my key database from the palm to the android (make sure you put it into /downloads not /download!), got it to read the file, and all is good! Thanks to all for Palm Keyring and now for the android version! Rusty |

We rely on the HotSync manager to do a regular backup of the encrypted database. There are some "conduits" on the page http://gnukeyring.sf.net/conduits.html Note that these are standalone programs that can read the encrypted database Keys-Gtkr.pdb and show/edit/convert the records. There is no tight integration into the HotSync manager. Also the editing functionality should be used with great care. Never edit the database on both PC side and palm side independently. Regarding version,I think both keyring-1.2.3 and keyring-2.0pre6 are reasonable stable. I used the latter for the last few years. I never did a release without the pre, though. The new version keyring-2.x uses a new database format, which is not supported by all conduits on the above site. This new format fixes a few minor flaws of the old format. None of them is critical, though. See http://gnukeyring.sourceforge.net/crypto.html#sect3 for details. Keyring-2 will happily upgrade databases from keyring-1.2.3, but there is no simple way back. BTW, for keyring-2, don't use the Cipher "No", as it does not encrypt at all. I want to remove it from the final release. Also some of the conduits don't support AES-256 for legal reasons. For example the US export version of the Java Runtime Environment only allows AES with 128 bit keys. You can always change the encryption method (Cipher) by setting a new password. Regards, Jochen |

Is there supposed to be a hotsync conduit that gets automatically gets installed when I install Keyring? I've got Palm OS v5.2.1 and Palm Desktop 4.1.4 on a Windows XP machine with HotSync manager 4.1.0. I see mention of hotsyncing but there wasn't a conduit that got installed when I installed Keyring version 1.2.3. Also, Sourceforge has keyring-2.0-pre6-en.zip available but the Keyring home page (http://gnukeyring.sourceforge.net/) shows keyring-1.2.3-en.zip as the latest version. Which should I be running? Thanks, Bob |

There are no such plans. AFAIK Android doesn't support palm applications, so this would mean almost a complete rewrite. If there are already password managers for android you can try to convert your data. I have a small xml export utility (http://hoenicke.ath.cx/keyring2-pre/) so you can get your data in a more portable but unencrypted format. Regards, Jochen |

I have the following Perl script which I used in exporting my Keyring db to (eventually) 1Password on my iPhone. It dumps to CSV format. #!/usr/bin/perl use Palm::PDB; use Palm::Keyring; use Term::ReadKey; use Text::CSV; use strict; my $file = shift or die "Usage: dump-keys.pl <keys file>\n"; print STDERR "password: "; ReadMode('noecho'); my $password = ReadLine(0); ReadMode('normal'); print "\n"; chomp $password; my $pdb = new Palm::PDB; $pdb->Load($file); if ($pdb->{version} == 4) { print STDERR "v4\n"; } if ($pdb->{options}->{v4compatible}) { print STDERR "v4compatible\n"; } my $csv = Text::CSV->new ({ always_quote => 1, binary => 1, }); for my $i (0 .. $#{ $pdb->{records} }) { # skip the password record for version 4 databases next if $i == 0 and $pdb->{version} == 4; my $rec = $pdb->{records}->[$i]; my $data = $pdb->Decrypt($rec, $password); my @columns = (); push @columns, $rec->{name}; push @columns, $data->{account}; push @columns, ($data->{lastchange}{month} + 1) . "/" . $data->{lastchange}{day} . "/" . ($data->{lastchange}{year} + 1900); push @columns, $data->{password}; push @columns, $data->{notes}; my $status = $csv->combine(@columns); if (!$status) { print $csv->error_input(); } print $csv->string(), "\n"; } |

Hello, I hacked an XML export for keyring some time ago. It is in the keyring svn repository. https://gnukeyring.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/gnukeyring/trunk/keyring-link/java I just build a jar-file xmlexport.jar and put it at: http://hoenicke.ath.cx/keyring2-pre/ Use it as follows: java -jar xmlexport.jar Keys-Gtkr.pdb "password" > output.xml This works with keyring-1.2.x and keyring-2.x databases. Due to Java's encryption restrictions it may fail on AES-256 encrypted keyring-2.x databases. In that case choose "set password" from keyring menu, enter a new password (it can be equal to the old), and select AES-128 (or find a crypto-provider for Java that supports AES with 256 bits). Regards, Jochen |

I had already downloaded & tried PyRing (v1.1.6). I went back to it to make sure I hadn't missed something, but I can find no option for exporting databases. If it makes any difference, I'm running this under Ubuntu 8.10 (the only PDA I have is a Clie PEG-SJ22, and I don't have a smartphone to try it on). |
