Hello, Today I tried to use GS in a real action. In the subtitles to the one episode of some TV series there was one small part not translated. A Small digression. In the past (when I was using Windows) for subtitles edition I was using SubEdit (http://matinf.pcz.pl/~subedit/english/information.html). It's a very good subtitles editor (and movie player) with a lot of features. The most important disadvantage is it's only for Windows. I don't want to compare GS and SE, because a project was started in the year 2000, so an author had a lot of time to work on it, but it could be taken as a place to take a good ideas (I know only two subtitles editors with a preview option for Linux - GS and Jubler). Backing to the main subject I would like to say that in a subtitles editor with a preview very useful option is ability to adjust a current line to the current moment in a playing movie. Sample situation. We translated some text, but it doesn't have any position markers. We start movie preview (in GS) and place a "cursor" in the first line. When we hear text from the current line we press some button (e.g. the Insert key) and a time stamp of the current is set to the current movie position (and "cursor" is moved to the next line - to be ready to adjust another verse (after next key press). It's important to add configurable delay (a few hundreds of milliseconds - people have different reflex). My observations apply also to keyboard shortcuts. It would be very useful to have shortcuts for (at least) a play/pause option, move a current subtitle back and forward 500 milliseconds. Btw, maybe there is some mono "mechanism" to easy allow users to bind their own keyboard shortcut to the specified options? Pedro, what do you think about my ideas? Regards Marcin |
