hey - fantastic. i wanted to talk to you and i just got this email :) the cpu detection should be in the kinfo file. i did a `uname -????' . the file i attached just holds the makefile.alpha. the correct CFLAGS are there. (after changing my linux dist i must have removed the stuff and this is just to get it running). but i will work on a kinfo way! kind regards, niki BTW: pls just send me plain text mails if possible - thanks a lot - niki (better for the mailinglist!) -----Original Message----- From: Joseph Kain [mailto:jo...@3d...] Sent: Wednesday, January 05, 2000 10:20 PM To: 'Waibel Niki' Subject: RE: [Glide-patches] FreeBSD and Glide I was wondering how you were do the new CPU detection, though I guess I can look at your source when you send it. I have recently updated the Device3Dfx package, have you seen the 2.3-3 and 2.3-4 releases. They create a small program called kinfo that can return information about the currently installed kernel. This was necessary because the old package was reading the kernel headers directly which was breaking with Red Hat's new kernel header layout. I would think that CPU detection could be done in a similar way, perhaps added to kinfo. Joseph Kain |
