Hi, I downloaded 2.8 yesterday, was prompted to download and install xquartz, did so, and then still experienced the text tool crash.  i closed out of gimp and reopened but it still crashed.  after restarting the computer a few times, gimp is no longer opening - if i click the icon once, the bar at the top of the screen says gimp is open, but no work windows open.  when i click it twice, x11 opens, but still no gimp work window.  i just purged gimp, redownloaded it, added it to my applications, and the same thing is happening - i can't get a work window to open.  i'm using mac os x 10.6.8.

thanks for any help!  if you can't tell, i'm not a developer!

  • … you need to install XQuartz properly.

Try downloading it again from http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing.

After installing you need to log out and log in again, better do a reboot. Do _not_ restart GIMP, log out and log in again, then restart GIMP.

If you start GIMP for the first time, please be patient. GIMP is collecting fonts on your system. This takes some time, up to 1 or 2 minutes.

If this don't work, then IMO XQuartz is not properly installed. I'm not a developer of XQuartz, so please ask the guys on

    http://xquartz.macosforge.org

how to get XQuartz installed. From what you say, it seems to me that still Apple's X11 is launched. I don't know why. Sorry. Please ask the XQuartz team.

I only added a simply option for you to download and install XQuartz. There is nothing more I can do from inside GIMP to solve this issue. Sorry. All I can say, that it works on my system without any issues….

You are correct - xquartz wasn't opening, and once (my friend) got it to open, GIMP is working great.  thanks!
