Sorry for opening a new thread but I must disagree with "lisanet" in "Native Gimp with Aqua?" thread
Most people will never install Gimp X11 because there are following reason:
1) Speed - startup X11 is waste of system resources and startup time is too long for everybody
2) Position of Main menu. This is really strange and it haven't Mac OS X look and disaponted all Mac user who wanted multi-window enviroment with single menu.
3) Fonts. There are mixture of X11 and System fonts. User make any picture-logotype to OpenOffice letter with text but he can't find X11 specific font which he want use in letter - same font in logo and letter.
4) Open/Save/Print dialog is totally different then in whole Mac OS X and it confuse Mac users.
Gimp situation is similar like OpenOffice 2.x situation - no Mac user. But when OpenOffice turn to Native Aqua OpenOffice3.0 a lot of people start using it includeing me.

Sorry, but I don't want another "native GIMP thread" and I don't want to sound harsh, but GIMP using X11 is very stable for those things I do. Very stable. And I have no time to work an porting GTK to Aqua, so there will be no "native" (whatever this means) GEIMP version. At least not on my site.
And, have a look at this thread

BTW,
Gimp situation is similar like OpenOffice 2.x situation - no Mac user.
What make you think this?
GIMP on OS X was downloaded since version 2.6.0 more than 1.700.000 times. There are more than 5.000 downloads each day.

… and what about you joining the project? Do you want to help in developing GIMP on OS X?
If you will port GTK+/GLIB2 to Aqua, I will do the packing of GIMP to run a s a native app… ;-)

lisanet: GTK+ seems to be ported already, it would be awesome if you provide a native app. Even an unstable app would be nice, it might get developers interested in fixing the bugs they find. Check out http://gimpfoo.de/2010/10/24/gimp-on-gtk-30/

Ooops, wrong link. This is the right one: https://sourceforge.net/projects/gtk-osx/

hhhmm, did you read the site you've linked to? Especially the 8. paragraph?
The native Quartz display is handled by libgdk-quartz and libgtk-quartz which are part of the GTK+-2 code base and are not part of the GTK-OSX project. Unfortunately, these libraries are not yet feature-complete.
and the next about development
What's more, while most other Gnome functionality can be made to work on OSX, few if any of the developers have any interest cross-platform compatibility.
GTK-OSX is a toolset to build applications using GTK+ on Macs. It's not a port of the GTK+ libraries. And this page doesn't look very promising…
https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/gtk-osx/wiki/GtkQuartz
Or just take a look at the bug list:
BTW, do you want to join the project here in GIMP on OS X and fix those bugs? Or help in any other way to improve this project? Write documentation about the various plugins? Fix bugs which will prevent GIMP 2.8 from running properly on Macs
AND, what's most:
There is a bug in GTK+ (in all versions > 2.16) which will prevent graphic tablets to work properly. And since GIMP 2.8 depends on GTK+ 2.18 or higher, GIMP 2.8 will have no support for graphic tablets.
Fixing this is important. GIMP without X1is not.
And sorry guys, I'm trying to fix this issue for months. Without any success.
So, instead of requesting GIMP to run without X11, you - or anybody else reading this - should try to help fix this bug, so that we all can get a GIMP 2.8 which will work with graphic tablets. If you - or anybody else reading this - want to help…
… just do it and post your patches or work here in the forums or mail.

Well… trying to fix a inherent broken toolkit doesn't worth the effort isn't? You should PORT Gimp to another working toolkit like Aqua or QT… i think that even the java garbage is better than GTK+.

Gimp is now available as a native MacOSX app, look at http://www.gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4440
An official native MacOSX app is just around the corner.

… come on, why don't you trust me?
The so called "native" version still does _not_ work correctly.
Plugin dialogs still pop up behind the main windows.
It's not about building a version without X11, that's really easy. It's about having a fully working and usable version. The X11 version does.

If that's the only problem, it's fine by me. It's just one extra click, for now. The native version feels so much better to use, at least for me.
A native UI, and an app provided by Gimp central, will hopefully lead to a broader user base. And this might include developers with an itch to scratch.
Apple doesn't even provide X11 as default anymore, which creates an extra hurdle for GimpX11. Sure, it's easy enough for us to install it, but that doesn't mean every user is comfortable with that (and the X11 UI itself).
