I haven't been a huge fan of Gimp earlier but since 2.8 was available for OS X i gave it a new try and i have to say WOW it has come a long way and is working very well (10.7.4 Lion)
It's still a little messy GUI wise (over all look for icons, tabs and sliders) but it has grown quite a bit and looks and feels better than ever.
Pixelmator looks and feels great but lacks more advanced tools.
Photoshop is fast, powerful and clean but is way way overpriced for personal use.
My only wish is for Gimp to become a truly native OS X app without using Quartz/X11.
Thank you all developers for all your hard work, i think I'll start using Gimp more from now on :=)

Gimp is now available as a native MacOSX app, look at http://www.gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4440

An official native MacOSX app is just around the corner.

… come on, why don't you trust me?

The so called "native" version still does _not_ work correctly.

Plugin dialogs still pop up behind the main windows.

It's not about building a version without X11, that's really easy. It's about having a fully working and usable version. The X11 version does.
