Afternoon all: I have been getting a bit of gnashing of teeth and angst from the OSGeo Live project as they gaze into their crystal ball and notice that "Sun" Java is being retired in favour of OpenJDK. I did not pay attention to the details; but it seems to work around distribution technique for using the Sun JDK has been phased out. As such they would like to go to OpenJDK 6 for their next release. This would take several GeoTools based applications out of the mix. Personally I would not consider migration until the Java 7 reference implementation is available. Still at some point this year we will need to set up a build machine with OpenJDK and get nightly builds running. I was going to ask if any of the other projects here have plans to migrate to OpenJDK in the coming year? Jody |
