So, the contract really is that you will not change your database 
structure or technology (in what timeframe?)  and by implication, all 
the feature types are unique to Mass. (or other agencies who adopt 
identical back-end platforms?)

Do you have any intention in the future of supporting  standardised 
FeatureTypes (such as the FGDC framework model?). If so, are you 
interested in being part of the testing cycle of the community-schema 
support work being rekindled?

So my guess is that the main driver to use Geoserver for WMS is in fact 
the WFS support (from a single configuration) requirement?
