[Geotools-gt2-users] newbie looking over suitability of GeoTools

I am looking over GeoTools for use in a web based application.  The first pass on the application will comprise 3 layers: base layer is a grid area with grid cell size of 100mX100m, next layer is a wireframe shape (ESRI or otherwise for roads, waterways, etc.), and the top layer being cell base stations.  Looking over GeoTools appears to show that the bottom 2 layers are well supported.  However, I am unsure about presenting the cell base stations.  Would anyone have a comment about what would be involved in integrating the drawing of something like this, or perhaps integrating it as an image.  Perhaps I am not looking in the right place in the tutorials/snippets.

Also, are there any particular issues that need specifically to be addressed when using GeoTools in an applet based application?
