I would like to build my own maps into the simple geotools examples.
The maps for the examples are apparently not in individual .shp files
.. rather the file statepop.zip is used which contains the three files:
dm_state_pop.dbf dm_state_pop.shp dm_state_pop.shx But the applet
parameters list the PARAM name="shapefile" and value="amap". Am I
supposed to be able to find amap.shp or amap.zip somewhere? Shouldn't
statepop appear somewhere? The source didn't help a lot, other than
mentioning the .zip bundling.
I suspect this means that if I just download the Census data at:
which are also in this format, I can use them for my applets, but I
don't know how to package this up into the applet parameters.
So the questions are:
- Where can I get data that will work w/ GeoTools. It looks
like the census data would work.
- What form does GeoTools need, .zip or unzipped?
- How do I get my external data into the applet parameters?
I ask because I'm running into a LOT of difficulty in the various
programs (ArcExplorer, OpenMap, ...) getting the data into the format
they want and where they want it. Tough on us newbies!
Thanks! Sorry to be so dense!

This list is for users of GeoTools 2, the examples you are talking about
come from the older GeoTools 1 (aka 0.8). Please post your queries to the
Sorry about this, but we need to keep separation so that the right people
