Try to replace "toWKT()" by=20 "toString()". The "toString()" format a WKT string without requirying=20 strict syntax (at some time in the past, toString() was returning=20 something else, but I changed my mind and came back to toString() =3D=3D=20 toWKT() except for the check of strict compliance). Jos=E9 Costa Moreira a =E9crit : > What I need to create a coordinate system, I mean based in SAD69 Datum.= =20 There is at least three ways: 1) The "easiest" one: if you have MS-Access, download the EPSG database (http://www.epsg.org). Click on "Browse Coordinate Reference System". Search for yours CRS (there is more than 3000 of them). When you have found it, note the EPSG code (the 4 digits number). Then in Geotools, invoke FactoryFinder.getAuthorityCRSFactory(null).createCoordinateReferenceSyste= m(code); If you don't have MS-Access, find some one who can browse the database for you and give you the EPSG code for yours CRS. In Geotools, use the epsg-hsql plugin instead of epsg-access (epsg-hsql should work on any platform). 2) If you don't want to use the EPSG database, try to get yours CRS definition in "Well Know Text" (WKT) format. Then invoke FactoryFinder.getCRSFactory(null).parseFromWKT(theDefinition); If you don't know what WKT format is, see: http://geoapi.sourceforge.net/2.0/javadoc/org/opengis/referencing/doc-fil= es/WKT.html (in other words, if you are not familiar with WKT, it is probably better that you try to get the EPSG database working). 3) If you don't want to use neither the EPSG database and the WKT format, then you have to create all objects yourself using DatumFactory, CSFactory and CRSFactory. See: http://www.geotools.org/Create+CoordinateReferenceSystems > Another thing. In MapViewer, in botoon of screen appears the coordinate= s=20 > of cursor (real coordinates). > both geographic and UTM coordinates appears and I would like to disable= =20 > one of them. Where I control > this behavior? I have not looked at MapViewer code for a while. But usually, those=20 coordinates are displayed by StatusBar. If you don't include the=20 StatusBar in yours widget, you should not see the coordinates. Martin. |

Hi, I am trying to figure out how to package gt2 with my java web start app. My first problem seems to be that there are so many individual jar files. Does one large gt2 jar file exist by chance? My second problem is with each individual jar file being individually signed. I'm not sure how to deal with this as my ant script is bailing when it hits the signed gt jars. Has anyone successfully packaged gt in a jws app? I think I have 2 options but wanted to see if anyone had some ideas. The first option is to unjar each and ever gt jar and remove the manifest file. I think I could then jar them up myself and sign them on my own. I don't really want to do that though. Secondly, JNLP allows for a component extension where I can specify 3rd party signed jars. I could do this but it would be tedious considering how many jars there are in the entire distribution. So, any ideas? Cheers, ./dylan |

Hello. I am wondering if there is an easy way to do filtering within an SLD document with a dynamic value...Especially for a date or timestamp value...? That is, I can easily do the following if I need to render all features where foo>10: <sld:Filter> <!-- mag>=7.5 --> <sld:PropertyIsGreaterThanOrEqualTo> <sld:PropertyName>foo</sld:PropertyName> <sld:Literal>10</sld:Literal> </sld:PropertyIsGreaterThanOrEqualTo> </sld:Filter> But, what if I want to render all features (in a certain manner) which have a timestamp attribute which is greater than, say, 48 hours? I can find nothing within the SLD spec to handle this. There is mention of "external functions", but that topic seems unresolved. If need be, I can resort to programmatically building the Style within the geotools API, much as some examples do (e.g. LiteRendererExample), but I would much rather retain use of the open standard SLD documents. Has anyone done something similar? Thank you greatly in advance. -- /** * john joseph roets * createTank * +1 304 695 0381 * jo...@cr... */ |

Mike, The code for coordinate systems has been moved. In the API for CoordinateSystemFactory - http://modules.geotools.org/legacy/apidocs/org/geotools/cs/CoordinateSystemFactory.html - you will notice that the new location follows the deprecated tag, and is: org.geotools.referencing.crs.CRSFactory The following should be useful for getting started with the new API: http://www.geotools.org/How+to+create+a+custom+MapLayer James > James, > > Thanks for your quick response. Reuben, I hope you dont mind, but i am just getting started with geotools and saw your note with the code sample. Hello, I am currently (very slowly) working on updating the cts tutorial for 2.1. Attached is the new (unfinished) tutorial code. This code is an updated version of the snippets that compiles. As far as hints are conserned, I think they allow you to order the factories to use. For example, you could have more than one CRSFactory implementation and may want to set one to be the default. Using null for the hints will result in the default geotools factories being used (which are the only ones we have right now). I expect Martin will reply if my understanding is wrong here. For the methods (used in MathTransformFactory::getDefaultParameters()) you can find an outdated list at: http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOTOOLS/Coordinate+Transformation+Paramete rs The methods are the projections and math transform names. For the full list, run the main method in org.geotools.referencing.operation.DefaultMathTransformFactory. You can also get the associated parameters from here. Comments about your code (I only looked at it for 5 minutes): - You should use geoapi interfaces to refer to variables (ie use GeographicCRS dgeoCRS = null instead of DefaultGeographicCRS). This will eliminate some type casts and separates the interfaces from the implementing classes (which is good since the names of the classes just changed). - There are some static pre-made objects that you could use to save some code (note that the one "by hand" snippet used the lowest level api possible). For example: --DefaultGeographicCRS.WGS84 (the axis order is (longitude, latitude)) --DefaultGeodeticDatum.WGS84 --DefaultEllipsoid.WGS84 --others (axis stuff should also be around somewhere) - Alternatives to the deprecated crsFac.createProjectedCRS() method are shown in the attached tutorial code in createCRSByHand1(). The commented out code in this method is lower level than the FactorysGroup method I used. The FactoryGroup method appears to be smart enough to grab the semi-major and minor parameters from the geographicCRS. - you could use a class structure for your different geographic crs's (see http://svn.geotools.org/geotools/trunk/gt/plugin/epsg-wkt/src/org/geotools/r eferencing/crs/AUTOCRSAuthorityFactory.java for an example of this). Then adding another supported CRS only involves adding a new class, instead of another if statement (though I usually write procedural code the way you do). James, Thanks for your quick response. I took your advice and downloaded the 2.1M5 source distribution and built it with maven, but i still got the same unresolved types. Then i followed the instructions to download the latest source directly from : svn co http://svn.geotools.org/geotools/trunk I then compiled this with maven and re-built the map demos and they now work fine. So now i am starting to understand things a little better, i have a couple of new questions regarding why i still cannot get some demo code to work. Firstly the FrameTools demo code. The following code will not compile because FactoryException cannot be resolved to a type. CoordinateSystemFactory csFactory = CoordinateSystemFactory.getDefault(); try { mapCS = csFactory.createFromWKT(wkt); } catch (FactoryException fe) { System.err.println(fe.getMessage()); fe.printStackTrace(); } After looking at the documentation, i can see that the CoordinateSystemFactory class is deprecated, so my question is 'How would i replace this code with the correct classes so that it would work?' 2. Secondly, the ShapeReprojector demo. The following code will not compile because CRS service cannot be reolved to a type. CRSService crsService = new CRSService(); CoordinateReferenceSystem originCrs = GeographicCoordinateSystem.WGS84; // crsService.createCRS("EPSG:4326"); CoordinateReferenceSystem destCrs = crsService.createCRS("AUTO:42001,0.0,0.0"); How would i go about changing this code using new 2.1 features to achieve the same results? Again, any help with this would be greatly appreciated. And if anyone has any simple demo programs that would help me get started, that wouldbe great. If all other data are in OSBG36, you should keep the marker in that CRS t= oo. If you are using J2D-renderer, this renderer try to project coordinates=20 from their "data" CRS to their "view" CRS. If the marker appears at the=20 wrong location, there is probably a glitch in the way CRS were=20 specified. Anyway, keeping all data in OSBG36 should help. Martin. |

Hello, I am completely new to Geotools (and also GIS), but I am very experienced with Java so it's not all bad news! I have adapted the SpearfishSample to read in dem data using the ArcGridDataSource. I then read in a shape file which has the OSGB36 grid lines at 5km resolution. This works perfectly and is very encouraging! But now I want to display a marker at a specific location. The location is specified by the user as OSGB36 coordinates. I have adapted the code from the 'How to create a Custom Map Layer' to make a layer with a symbol on it. The example code uses WGS84, so I convert the location from the OSGB36 reference to WGS84 using a Helmert Transformation. And specify the coordinates of the location on this new Layer. I then add the layer to the map, and the marker is displayed in the bottom left hand corner. I presume this is because the map is expecting the location to be specified in the OSBG36 form, and doesn't know where to place the marker. Obviously I am going about this in the wrong way, can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance Andrew |

Programming with the new jdk 1.5 features is just great, I think. > Would it be possible to backport your work to 1.4? My assumption was, that it might be of use to many other geotools users as well. It seems such a common feature. I'll get back to you after I have created an ext/graticule module. Check out the tutorials for that class. One important question is how will you access data? If you're getting features from a WFS using GML, you can have the applet point there directly (assuming the SecurityController allows you to do so). You might also take a look at the SerializableFeatures snippet I posted on the Wiki to see how you might transfer feature data from your web server to the applet as Java objects (which is more efficient than GML). If you don't want to use an applet, but instead want to display images in a web page with zoom/pan causing a new page to load, you'll want to use LiteRenderer2 to generate images to return to the client. You'll then need to write code to embed those images in HTML, understand the user requests, etc. -- Trevor Stone | Software Engineer | tel 800-554-4434 | fax 303-271-1930 | email ts...@ty...
