I have, with Ian's help, just completed an initial port of the PROJ
(proj home page) http://www.remotesensing.org/proj/
There is still quite a bit to do, but my hope is that this can form the
core of a projection engine within GeoTools2. You can find the code as it
stands in the GeoTools2 source tree or you can check out the module on its
own as proj4j.
The bulk of the remaining work involves porting small projection algorithm
files to Java. Each one is quite easy, if a little time consuming, so if
anyone wants to claim a few to port then please let me know.
I have tried to build a full set of unit tests as I went along, but I need
some more test data and a better understanding of some of the projections
to complete that task.
