Hi Bob, up to now only 2 browsers can be used with geonetwork: firefox and IE6. For normal navigation maybe any browser is ok but for the Ajax code in the administration pages firefox and IE must be used. This is due to the XSL transformations made on the browser and only firefox and IE support it. Firefox works perfectly because it is the browser I use to create the web interface (so it is the reference browser). IE works (more or less) but it is not recommended to use it because some pages have artifacts that it was not possible to fix.
