Term: Positive regulation of glioma colony formation capacity
Definition: The function of a protein that promotes the formation of a glioma colony.
A similar but inadequate term was GO:0008284 "positive regulation of cell proliferation" but it is essential to include the note that it is not only cell proliferation being regulated, but specifically glioma colony growth. The other terms associated with glioma were not relevant to this annotation.

Hi Aubrey,
Gliomas are tumors, and processes occurring in non-physiological settings are outside the scope of GO. So we wouldn’t have an ontology term for ‘glioma colony formation’ or ‘positive regulation of glioma colony growth’. Does the paper you’re annotating contain evidence that the growth of normal brain cells (e.g. healthy glial cells) is stimulated by PP5? If so, we’d capture that, for example by using the existing term GO:0060252 ‘positive regulation of glial cell proliferation’ (or by annotating to ‘positive regulation of cell proliferation’ and adding an annotation extension to indicate the cell type via a Cell Type Ontology (CL) term).
Thanks,
Paola
