Hi Midori,

We got this e-mail about the annotation guide. Would
you like to do it since you're in charge of the
annotation guide?

Jen

Hello,

Current GO annotation guide explains the use of
'contributes-to' under general recommendations; it
mentions that it should be entered in the qualifier
column and gives examples. However the table links and
the column title/example shown in color have NOT as the
title of column 4. The description of columns following
the colored column content/example picture has
qualifier instead of not as the title. The description
however is mostly about NOT and so are the examples. I
think it can be a bit confusing for people that don't
attend the consortium meetings and/or are new to the GO
annotation guide. Maybe it can be easily fixed.

Thank you,

Victoria Petri

    More for the annotation guide:

The following sentence appers in the annotation guide general
    recommendations section :

"An individual gene product that is part of a complex can be
annotated to terms that describe the the action (function or
process) of the complex. These annotations must include the entry
'contributes_to' in the 'Qualifier' column (see below)."

    1) The word "the" appears twice in a row.
    2) The sentence appears to imply that the qualifier 'contributes_to'
could be used with either function or process annotations. It was
my understanding that this qualifier was reserved for use only with
function annotations. If I am correct in my understanding, perhaps
the documentation could be clarified here a bit?

The glaring errors (lingering 'NOT' instead of 'Qualifier'; typo) are now fixed. I'm leaving this item open, tho, because we do need more description/explanation for qualifiers other than NOT.

Also, I'm unassigning this from myself because technically I'm already on holiday. If no noe gets to it beforeI'm back, I might have time to take it back, but don't regard it as paws-off-it's-my-territory in the meantime. ;)

closing this - doc has been updated with examples for 'contributes_to' and
    'colocalizes_with' following Annotation Camp
