I use a combination of emacs and OE2 for editing, as I'm pretty sure some other users do. Would it be possible to add a feature that checks the file on disc regularly to see if its changed and if it has, trigger a prompt asking for auto-reload if there are no edits to be saved, or if there are, asking whether the users wants to reload, save current edits in OE2 or ignore.

(BTW - The fact that Protege 4 does this allows me to use it as a browser while I'm editing in OE2 or emacs. As interconversion improves, it's possible that Protege 4 users will similarly want to use OE2 as a browser, given the graphing and searching options present in OE2 but not in Protege4)

I was looking into this. It sounds like there's a useful class in Java 7 called WatchKey that would simplify this: http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/essential/io/notification.html

But I don't think we're ready to switch to Java 7. (Some OE users still want it to run in Java 5!)
