ODE Integrated into Genecys

As of today, the Genecys Project uses ODE http://www.ode.org for it's physics and collision engine. This change provides a marked improvement in the overall functionality of the physics. ODE solves a number of problems that the built-in physics engine couldn't handle well, such as objects rolling down hills, objects bumping into eachother, and players being able to walk on top of objects.

Integration of freeSOLID

We have decided to tightly integrate freeSOLID 0.1 into the code for the Genecys engine. As of 03/30/2004, the freeSOLID library is included in the Genecys CVS tree. This will make building the server much easier for interested users, as well as allow us greater control over the collision engine itself.

We are very pleased with the freeSOLID engine, and are glad it could be utilized as an integral part of our project.... read more

Introduction to the Genecys Project

The Genecys Project is a new MMORPG project I have embarked on. The fundamental concept behind it is a world that is generated wholly dynamically by the server. NPC AI will interact with players, over time, to slowly evolve the world. Each server will then be a unique place to explore.

I have been busily coding away on this project by myself for the last three months. I finally put up a basic webpage for it this week. At this point the server engine is pretty much working as I would like it to. Collision detection and client-server interaction work great. Players can log on to a server, and interact in a limited fashion (no chat interface yet).... read more
