No

The initial scrolling text behaves erratically. First the last line of the first paragraph ("Forgotten Realms...") will jump sideways to the right to line up with the line above, and then back to the right again. Then the initial N will jump down, then back up while the rest of the text scrolls off. Then, as most of the text has scroll offscreen, all of it will jump back down again.

I have just begun BG1 with GemRB, so I don't know yet if these kinds of problems apply to all scrolling narration text.

GemRB compiled from Git repository source July 19th, 2012. GUI enhancements off.
Mac OS X 10.7.4

Hi, I don't have BG (installed), but last i checked this it worked in BG2 which i also dont have installed ATM.

if you have BG2 can you check it there?

Also you are on a mac so are you playing with the Mac version of BG1? that could make a difference because there may be different line endings that we dont recognize.

I'll install BG2 and get back to you. This is the Windows version of BG1 however, purchased from GoG and unpatched.

Hmm, it was a long time since I played BG2. When is the first scrolling text narration? Does anyone have a suitable savefile?

first narration is after leaving the dungeon.

you can download saves from here: http://www.eowyn.cz/gemrb/

I know there is a save there that is just before leaving the dungeon.

The scrolling text in BG2 after Irenicus' Dungeon works a lot better than the intro text of BG1. However, the initial T does not scroll off right – it jumps down here too.

I thought this was fixed back in october with commit 16240e6811, but the message does say that it is known that auto scrolling text is still broken (funny how i dont remember my own work)

commit message: "Note that the SetupString calculation is still broken for auto scrolling text."

wish I had bothered to write *how* the calculation is broken :(

Improvement: The drop cap scrolling works!

However, the last line of the first paragraph still jumps right and left, and the text is still redrawn from the beginning about halfway through scrolling off-screen.

yes i tested with a chapter that only had one paragraph which works fine.

i imagine that the remaining issue is due to the fact that there are multiple paragraphs and im certain that the string setup assumes that all lines preceding a capital are empty lines which in the case of multiple paragraphs is certainly not true.

who would have thought something so seemingly simple would be such a pain :)
