I apology if it has already been discussed, but I didn't find it on this tracker.

By this post, I humbly request some option/way to disable that latex toolbar. Here are my reasons :

1. I simply don't use it at all (shortcuts are much faster) and it takes quite a lot of screen estate, especially on my small notebook.
2. I often edit a lot of files, and it's annoying that the tab bar moves up and down when i go from a latex file to a non latex file (or the other way around)

  • Hi,
    As a temporary solution, to hide the toolbar you can replace, in file ~/.gnome2/gedit/plugins/GeditLaTeXPlugin/src/base/decorators.py, at line 335 in version 0.2rc3 (line 307 in 0.2rc1, I don't know in rc2), the lines

    if extension in latex_extensions:
    self._toolbar.show()
    else:
    self._toolbar.hide()

    by

    show_toolbar = self._preferences.get("ShowLaTeXToolbar", True)
    if (extension in latex_extensions) and show_toolbar:
    self._toolbar.show()
    else:
    self._toolbar.hide()

    and subsequently add the line

    <value key="ShowLaTeXToolbar">False</value>

    to the file ~/.gnome2/gedit/plugins/GeditLaTeXPlugin/preferences.xml.
