Using Ubuntu 9.10 with default packages.
geany 0.18 (built on Aug 24 2009 with GTK 2.17.7, GLib 2.21.4), GTK+ 2.18.3, GLib 2.22.3.

When a file using a multibyte encoding such as UTF-16, UTF-32 or UCS-2 (endianness doesn't matter) is loaded, the "Symbols" tab at the left seems to still expect UTF-8 or similar as encoding which results in senseless symbols with screwed up characters, often Chinese ones or none at all. When I save the file as UTF-8 everything works again.
