geany nightly as of 2014-06-25 (and 06-21) doesn't start on windows (win 7-64, german).
Error: procedure entry point for "gdk_window_create_similar_surface" is missing in "libgdk-win32-2.0-0.dll".
I did install geany-1.24_setup.exe and copied the files of geany_win32_nightly.zip over the installed geany version.
geany nightly as of 2014-05-08 does start just fine.
geany nightly as of 2014-06-25 doesn't start.

I tagged it as 1.24 because my gtk stuff came with geany-1.24_setup.exe.
My last working geany (as of 2014-05-08) tags itself as 1.25.

It seems that geany nightly needs a newer version of gtk: After installing gtk 2.24 (gtk2-runtime-2.24.10-2012-10-10-ash.exe) geany nightly starts!

Note that the nightly build is a development version built, well ... nightly. At any one time it may work perfectly, have bugs, not work at all or not even build.

And yes the development version requires a newer version of gtk than the 1.24.1 release does, so you can't use the version bundled with the release.

  Re nightly: Yes, I am aware of the risks when using a nightly version. That's why I always keep a "last good version". I simply think that testing geany under windows might help a little bit. I didn't want to complain, I just wanted to let you know.
  Re newer gtk: I didn't see a note on that in the change log (or i didn't see this implication).
  So the bug should be closed probably?
  And the next geany_full_setup for windows should include a newer version of gtk?
  Or the link to the gtk runtime on http://www.geany.org/Support/RunningOnWindows should point to a newer gtk version?

Sorry for not making more noise about the changed Windows nightlies:

I recently updated the build environment of the Windows nightly builds to build them against GTK 2.24 as Geany from GIT master doesn't build anymore the previously used GTK 2.16. So of course, as you noticed, you need also a recent GTK 2.24 runtime.

I already updated http://wiki.geany.org/howtos/win32/running. The information on the main Geany website are outdated and I'll remove that page soon.

At least, I updated the README on nightly.geany.org/win32 in time :).

I will also provide an installer including a suitable GTK 2.24 runtime for testing soon.

More testers welcome. Especially on Windows since most of the devs are Linux users.

I wanted to understand that threre were risks in using nightlys for real work.

Test reports are welcome, especially if accompanied by pull requests on github with the fix ;)
