Geany Version: 1.23
Operating system: Ubuntu 12.04.04

While using Geany's built in terminal, if I press F9 while it has the focus when I switch the focus back to any other portion of Geany, the F9 short cut doesn't work. The only way to get the shortcut to work again is to restart Geany. I can still use the menu to run the command manually. I've tested this with both latex files and C++ files

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create empty file with .tex extension
  2. Press F9 (will attempt to compile)
  3. Click on terminal tab
  4. Press F9 (~ character appears in terminal)
  5. Click in text portion of Geany
  6. Press F9 (Geany does nothing)
  7. Build > Latex->PDF (Works still)

    I checked out the git commit d76323260c85eebdbe54c8155ffa51ae68a205aa mentioned above, and I have the same problem still. If it makes any difference I have bash set as my default shell.

  • As for @elextr, it does work for me, at your step 6 F9 compiles just as on step 2.

    Could you please try with a fresh configuration? (e.g. using geany -c /tmp/geanycfg) If a fresh configuration fixes your problem, could you paste your original configuration file please? (~/.config/geany/geany.conf)

    Maybe this is a Ubuntu-ism. Which desktop are you using? Unity is known to cause some problems with its hacking of the GTK stack.

    Any other Ubuntu users verify?

    I tried with a fresh confuration (geany -c /tmp/geanycfg), and the same thing happened again. I am using Unity, so I started up ldxe, and it works correctly in lxde.

    Unfortunately I don't think we can do anything other that add it to the list of Unity problems. Unity hacks into the GTK stack and seems to have several issues (eg failure to support modality).

    This bug affects me too. I am also using Ubuntu 12.04. It does not work on both Geany 1.23 and Geany 0.21. Besides F9, F8, F5, Shift+F9 and Shift+Ctrl+F9 don't work either. Remapping them to other keys don't work. But the buttons and the options from the Build menu work. All other shortcuts (F1, F2, F4, F6) work as normal.

    To be clear, from the above discussion, this is a Unity bug and not something we can fix.
