Can someone think of a good name for the new main window where you open databases and start the programs? John wants to add a new program, and I don't know what to call that window.
I should ask this question first: Is it good to have this window separate? It is somewhat awkward to have 2 windows in order to do anything, but I hope to add more subsystems, and then it will feel more natural to do your subtask and go back to the main window. It is also easier for the subsystem if you don't have to implement an open feature.

Yes, "Main Window" is a very practical way to refer to it. It is also the best suggestion so far! I try to avoid the term "main" in the code, though, since you have the main() method for starting the program.
