They would probably be implemented the same way as a LightMap (or sometimes
called ShadowMap). Essentially you write the lightmap to the buffer, then
multiply (modulate) the color map into it. The light maps are usually
written first so you can combine them by adding them together.
If you need something like glowing lava or glowing energy, that can also
sometimes be done with a color and alpha map and just blitted on top of your
