Hi

I am writing to you directly as I am becoming
desperate. I have searched all the information i could
find using google and different newsgroups, but
information about TVout on Radeon 7000 seems to be scarce.

I have just received a new ATI Radeon 7000 graphics
card for my Debian (Sarge) machine, it runs fine with
TV out for my projector and television in the shell,
but if I start the X server, the picture flicks a few
times with a blur of colours and then goes black it is
worth noting I have clear picture on my monitor, its
only the TVout devices who goes to black.

I have tried to download and install the GATOS branch
with TVout thru CVS, but get the following error when I
run xmkmf:

mars:/ati.2# xmkmf /root/xfree86-4.3.0.dfsg.1/xc
imake -I/root/xfree86-4.3.0.dfsg.1/xc/config/cf
-DTOPDIR=/root/xfree86-4.3.0.dfsg.1/xc -DCURDIR=.

Stop.

After a few failed tries with different configurations,
I instead tried the ’apt-get install Gatos’ which seems
to download and install Gatos fine, but there is still
no tvout in X

As the last thing I tried to download atitvout from:
http://0pointer.de/lennart/projects/atitvout/ and if I
run 'atitvout detect' it finds my TV with no problems:

mars:/ati.2# atitvout detect
CRT is attached.
TV is attached via S-Video.

But if I run 'atitvout pal auto' and then runs the X
server there is still no TVout. If anybody knows what I
am doing wrong or can point to a better distribution to
use in conjunction with Radeon 7000 to get the TVout
working I will be very grateful

Regards

    Hi

I have a Radeon ViVo card, which is a r100 card. I too had
the same problem with X screen going blank with the tv-out
enabled. I found a work around to the problem by simply
switching resoloutions to 800x600 after X had started, using
ctrl alt +. To my surprise this gave me back the display,
and tvout worked. I now start X in 640x480 and have a
script to automatically change the resolution to 800x600
after X startup. It works now :-)

    Hope this helps you.
