When you move a chat window on top of Buddy List window and then hover the mouse over a link in the chat window, the appearance of the link's tooltip causes the Buddy List to rise and overlay the chat window. The focus doesn't change, just the z layer order. I'm using Windows XP with Pidgin 2.0 final and EP 0.7. Disabling Extended Preferences fixes the problems.

I have determined this bug is caused by the skip taskbar hint (hiding the buddy list from the taskbar). I am trying to figure out why this causes Pidgin to raise the buddy list whenever a tooltip is drawn. This may be a GTK or pidgin bug, but it's us exposing it, so I will try to find out how.

The issue only happens on Win32, so it seems likely it's a GTK+ bug. I have reported it, but I don't know if/when it will be fixed. The best workaround for now is to simply enable the taskbar entry or disable the plugin.

Is this still happening? The gtk taskbar hint was also troublesome for the 'Hide BuddyList Entry in Taskbar' bug that is listed. Users who downgraded said that the problem didn't happen with the lower version of GTK+.

If you downgrade to the version of GTK+ that comes with 2.3.x does this change this behaviour?

This is a GTK+ bug and is reported upstream. We can't fix this in our plugin.
