  • G4L 0.46 Alpha 40 2013/09/28 (Issue with 3.11 kernels and dhcp)

In recent Alpha versions I had changed the default kernel to the released 3.11 versions, and had tested it under virtual box to see that it worked. I have just recently updated my lab machines to use the 3.11.x kernels, and have discovered that the dhcp process fails to get an IP address. In doing more testing, I discovered that it was working at 3.11-rc5, but all versions from that point up to and included the just released 3.11.2 fail. The 3.12-rc2 does work thou, so not sure why the issue only seems to be with the 3.11 versions, and why the 3.11.2 didn't fix the issue since it came out after 3.12rc2? With this alpha, I have moved the default kernel back to 3.10.13, thou the 3.11.2 is there as well as the 3.12rc2.

In doing additional testing, the dhcpd server does get the request, and sends out an offer, but nothing happens after that. The ramdisk.lzma is the same for the testing, so it is only the kernels that differ in the testing, so not clear what the issue is.

  • Have resolved issue in release of 0.46 alpha 43 in which the 3.11.3 kernel fixes problem. In looking at change log appears a fix to the skge nic driver was the issue, and explains why it worked with the virtual box test that use another nic, whereas my lab machines have skge nics.
