I've browsed the latest WorldWidePanorama with freepv.
Besides 12 crashes while watching 200+ VR, it worked
well on most of themand is smoother than QuickTime!
Of interest for debugging / improving FreePV:
loaded successfully but my screen stayed black
error during QTVR decoding, and according to the
webpage it was made with Apple QuickTime VR Authoring
Studio _the_ original software to make QTVRs.
just hanged after downloading and I had to restart
very weird display
Can anybody please confirm the above?
Seven other entries reported JPEG decoding failed -
most likely because they use some exotic, unsupported
codec. A detailed list (with recommandation to authors
to revert to standard JPEG encoding) will follow on
the WWP mailing list.
Looking at the WWP entries, my impression is that
further development of QTVR support could be
prioritized along the following feature list:
1. support for the cylindrical model (cylinders appear
very distorted right now)
2. support for pan/tilt/zoom limits
3. support for some basic sprites (e.g. autorotation)
- though I have absolutely no idea what this would
mean, so if I am poking into a wasp nest, just forget
this and skip to the next one
4. and of course, hotspots
This relates only to QTVR support. Current development
focus is on SPi-V support. Since the above features
(with exception of the sprites) are also part of the
SPi-V specification, I suggest implementing them for
SPi-V panoramas first and then parse the QTVR and
translate them from QTVR to the structure built for
keep on the great job, Leon!
