The web-based Electronic Medical Record application, FreePM is nearing a 1.0 release. With this beta release Free Practice Management, Inc. is preparing to provide commercial support programs. See http://www.freepm.com for details.

Free Practice Management 0.5.2b (MedMan) was released today. The code name "MedMan" was used for this version because a physician can implement FreePM as a patient medication management system via a seperate interface included in this version.
As FreePM goes through it's incremental beta period. The prescription writing / medication management system is ready for use. The full FreePM interface though is rather complex if all you want to do is use the parts that are complete.... read more
FreePM was displayed at the American Medical Informatics Symposium in Los Angeles. The reception to an open source alternative was quite high. Linux News carried a couple of stories about FreePM and open source in general at the show.

A new beta release has been posted. This release incorporates the patch from 0.5.0b and has a greatly reduced file size. The ICD9 codes were removed since they have no impact on the current beta modules (patient registration, formulary and prescription writing). This was done because lower end machines with Win9x could not import the FreePM folder.
A new install procedure will be developed to allow lower end machines to add the codes a folder at a time.
There is a replacement FreePMProduct for 0.5.0b
It corrects a problem with using the copy prescription function.
Untar the patch file in your Zope ROOT directory.
It will place a new FreePMProduct in your import directory.
Import the new product into Control_Panel/Products.
We believe heartily in the reuse of code. <g> So, there are several Zope Products that are required for use with FreePM. Please read the Prequisites document before attempting to use FreePM on your own Zope installation.
The 0.4.9a release is a pre-beta. Release 0.5.0b will contain updated documentation but the only code changes will be if anything in the patient registration / formulary /prescription writing modules is seriously broken.
Due to the scope of FreePM is was decided that releasing a beta of what amounts to a prescription writing application was a good thing. Even if it is a small part of FreePM. It will make the transition to FreePM easier for physicians by giving them one task to concentrate on while at the same time provide them with the ability to begin patient registration that will benefit them as more modules come online.
