Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: marhawkman (marhawkman) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Crash to desktop when starting Initial Comment: Unknown cause due to lack of error messages. Crash appears while doing setup for a new game. While galaxy/enemies are being generated it suddenly crashes to desktop completely and generates no errors. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Markus Sinner (kroddn) Date: 2008-06-11 13:07 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=853243 Originator: NO If your card or your drivers do not support openGL 1.5, there's no chance to get 0.3.9 working. You can ask google for your type of graphics card and have a look at its specs, if it supports that or not. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: marhawkman (marhawkman) Date: 2008-06-11 11:33 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1452614 Originator: YES any way ot fix the OpenGl issue? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Markus Sinner (kroddn) Date: 2008-06-10 17:00 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=853243 Originator: NO There's nothing uncommon in these logfiles. I think the game crashes because your graphics drivers do not support the needed openGL version. You have to wait for a newer release of FreeOrion for Windows, there you can disable the extendet openGL support. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: marhawkman (marhawkman) Date: 2008-06-08 13:44 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1452614 Originator: YES File Added: freeoriond.log ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: marhawkman (marhawkman) Date: 2008-06-08 13:42 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1452614 Originator: YES Attaching files for logs. File Added: freeorion.log ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: marhawkman (marhawkman) Date: 2008-06-06 07:37 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1452614 Originator: YES this was in the log: "Host player disconnected", then later "Server terminating" Do you guys need the whole log file? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Markus Sinner (kroddn) Date: 2008-06-05 16:20 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=853243 Originator: NO geoffthemedio already explained to you there the logs go. Please make sure you are able to see hidden files. We need the contents of freeorion.log. In your version 0.3.9 there is no option for disabling gassy stuff, sorry for that. But i am almost sure you have this problem - which grafics card are you using? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: marhawkman (marhawkman) Date: 2008-06-05 15:17 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1452614 Originator: YES Alrighty... did more testing, found where the ACTUAL logs are kept and the result? Galaxy gas rendering does not seem to be disableable in this version. The named command line option is treated as jibberish, and there is no menu option available. As for the log... "Host player disconnected", then later "Server terminating" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: marhawkman (marhawkman) Date: 2008-06-02 08:36 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1452614 Originator: YES It's 0.3.9. So the log I need to look at is not in the same directory as the EXE? I'll try it again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Geoff Topping (geoffthemedio) Date: 2008-06-01 13:00 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=913462 Originator: NO If the log files are empty, you're probably not looking at the right file. The client log file is C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\FreeOrion\freeorion.log There should be mesages in there, and on the console, about SDLInit(), GLInit, FPS limiting, and possibly a few others. If not, you're looking at the wrong files, or you're not running v0.3.9 or later. "the most recent build" doesn't tell me anything. Be specific, and give a number. Are you running v0.3.9, or the latest SVN? (If the latter, which revision? Built with what?) Also, if using a firewall, ensure it's set to let freeorion, freeoriond and freeorionca access the local / trusted network. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Markus Sinner (kroddn) Date: 2008-06-01 11:42 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=853243 Originator: NO Try deactivating Shader Effects ins Options dialogue in Tab "UI" by deactivating "Galaxy map gas rendering" and restart the game. Or run the game with command-line-option: --UI.galaxy-gas-background 0 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: marhawkman (marhawkman) Date: 2008-06-01 10:57 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1452614 Originator: YES Okay, I've tried every galaxy type, a wide range of sizes, and tried changing every other setting as well, but it still crashes every time. The only useful information I could glean was that it sometimes takes longer to crash, but this does not appear to be directly related to the configuration settings. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: marhawkman (marhawkman) Date: 2008-05-28 13:42 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1452614 Originator: YES It's the most recent build, running under XP. I tried a few different settings, not many though. 5000 stars, 50 stars, 500 stars, I also tried it with different settings for race color. I don't think I changed galaxy type. I don't remember the exact settings. It has happened Everytime I've tried to start the game. IIRC the log files are empty, but I'll go back and double check. Same happens from console. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Geoff Topping (geoffthemedio) Date: 2008-05-28 00:04 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=913462 Originator: NO What version of FO and OS? Do galaxy settings change behaviour / which do you use? Does it always happen, or just occasionally? What is in freeorion.log and freeoriond.log? What is output if you run from the console instead of the shortcuts? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=544942&aid=1975054&group_id=75752 |
